As a white person who previously worked in the animal rights movement, there are many black (and otherwise nonwhite) vegans — but the issue lies in the white leadership of the movement that has largely lacked the broad mindedness to reach out. (And in some cases, instead relied on slavery allegories to sell veganism to white people.)
